Automotive Safety Test Equipment

Description

The task of this application is to test the functionality of the infrared pictures of the street taken during night drives. This is carried out by the first computer. A second computer tests the alarm function when the car is running over the road marking lines. The third computer is used for data recording. The three independent units are connected via Ethernet and installed in one 19" rack inside the car trunk.

Two cameras are installed next to the test vehicle's rear-view mirror. One camera records the profile of the road. When the car is running over the road marking line, the respective computer delivers an alarm. The second camera is an infrared model. It illuminates the road with full-beam infrared head-lamps that are not visible and do not dazzle the driver in the oncoming car. The infrared image of the road at night is displayed on a monitor installed in lieu of the former speed display.

All of the 3U CompactPCI® CPU cards for this test arrangement are based on Intel® multi-core architecture with state-of-the-art computer interfaces and accompanied by a side card with further UARTs and a SATA hard disk slot. Tailored heat sinks for the boards and an optimized air flow inside the system make sure that all computers work properly inside the closed trunk of the test car. As communication and performance requirements in this type of application are never sufficient, the system is open for migration from parallel CompactPCI® to serial CompactPCI® PlusIO and CompactPCI® Serial.
