System Design

MEN is an expert in complex system design, in particular for mission-critical applications. The offer ranges from rugged stand-alone, wall-mount and DIN-rail standard box and display computers or Ethernet switches to individually configured 19" racks (CompactPCI® (PlusIO/Serial) and VMEbus) and entire custom developments.

We offer all building blocks from a single board-level component up to a completely configured system in accordance with our clients' concept. Dedicated design teams at MEN provide the mechanical and electrical enclosure concept for standard and custom solutions.

The conception of receiving the entire solution from MEN as a single supplier who is responsible for the whole system makes project management easier for the client and allows us to tailor the system to the requirements. We are also responsible to make the right choice of third-party components and decide if it is necessary to develop additional components.

We give a guarantee for overall operability, which minimizes the integration effort and the handling cost, e.g., for incoming goods inspection, on the client’s side. Services include the interoperability of all boards including third-party components and the test of in-system EMC behavior, resulting in a system ready for EMC certification. Software is pre-installed, application software can be installed on request, and even tests with application software can be performed.

Our completely configured systems meet the quality standards required for mission-critical applications. Measures include e.g. a 100% test of all integrated boards and a 100% test of the system including the PSU, backplane and cabling. A test report is provided for the complete system. MTBF calculations can be provided according to IEC/TR 62380. We perform thermal analysis with hot-spot detection and define the thermal connection of the hot spots to the housing. That way, many of our standard systems are delivered as fanless and maintenance-free devices.

We assure the quality of our systems by applying traceability through the V-model.

Qualification according to market standards is one of our key services. In close cooperation with certified test laboratories we prepare the systems to meet the standards of their final destination - in railway, avionics, medical or industrial environments, and mobile applications in general.

All these services are backed by our certified quality management systems where defined handling processes even include the handling of third-party components or parts supplied by the customer.
