Nuremberg, Germany – January 23, 2011. Robust, space-saving and with higher performance than the first generation Intel® Atom™: MEN's new ESMini™ module is equipped with an Intel® Atom™ processor from the E600 series and fits excellently into demanding mobile applications – particularly meeting high graphics requirements in a small space.

A Perfect Combination: Small All-Rounder for Demanding Markets

For railway, avionics, agricultural or construction machines or medical engineering: wherever technological requirements are high and only a limited amount of space is available, the robust MM2 is the perfect choice.

The Intel® Atom™ E600 processor on the MM2 COM module runs with a frequency of up to 1.6 GHz and has a maximum power dissipation of 5 to 7 watts. Based on the PCI Express® standard for the processor-to-chipset interface, it offers flexible possibilities for connecting application-specific I/O and an improved graphics performance.

The MM2 provides a multitude of I/O interfaces. It supports both serial I/O such as PCI Express®, LVDS and SDVO for graphic interfaces, High Definition audio, Ethernet, SATA and USB and legacy I/O such as CAN bus and COM interfaces.

The DDR2 SDRAM with a size of up to 2 GB is soldered against shock and vibration. Different mass storage media can be accommodated directly on the carrier board.

As all ESMini™ modules the MM2 has a size of only 95 mm x 55 mm, is designed for an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C and is embedded into a frame which offers complete EMC protection and efficient conduction cooling. Air cooling is also possible by applying a heat sink on top of the cover.

The real-time clock and a board management controller with watchdog complete the functionality of the robust computer-on-module.

About ESMini™ Modules

An ESMini™ module measures only 95 mm x 55 mm. It is specified for an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C. By standard, the module is embedded in a covered frame which ensures complete EMC protection and allows efficient conductive cooling. Air cooling is also possible by applying a heat sink on top of the cover. ESMini™ modules are firmly screwed to a carrier board and come with rugged, industry-proven and railway-compliant connectors with differential signals. By standard, only soldered components are used to withstand shock and vibration, and the design is optimized for conformal coating.

MEN Mikro Elektronik – Profile and Mission

Embedded Solutions - Rugged Computer Boards and Systems for Harsh, Mobile and Mission-Critical Environments

Since its foundation in 1982 our company designs and manufactures failure-safe computer boards and systems for extreme environmental conditions in industrial and safety-critical embedded applications.

With over 200 employees and subsidiaries in France and the USA we have an annual revenue of more than 40 million Euros with an export share of about 40%. Customized solutions make for more than half of our revenue. Starting with the development phase, through the design-in and beyond we are at our customer's disposal with advice and support. In addition the standard product range includes far more than 100 different computer boards with x86 and PowerPC® technology with the corresponding BIOS, BSP and driver software, manifold I/O boards and completely configured systems based on:

The consistent use of FPGA technology gives us high flexibility when configuring customized and standard products.

Our products are used worldwide as control, measuring, test or simulation computers in all kinds of embedded applications. These are extremely safety-critical mobile markets like railway, buses, agricultural machines, commercial vehicles, avionics and shipbuilding as well as other mission-critical applications in industrial automation and medical engineering. Computer systems in such applications are in operation up to 24 hours every day and often need to be available for 10 years and longer. Ideally no failures must occur to avoid costly downtimes of machines or danger to human life.

We are certified to EN 9100:2009 (aerospace), IRIS (railway), e1 (road traffic), ISO 9001:2008 (quality management) and ISO 14001:2005 (environmental management) in order to meet the severe quality requirements in critical applications and to offer our customers the highest quality in products and services while considering environmental protection and occupational safety on the basis of a recognized quality management system.

Our aim is to constantly improve and to provide the highest technology and innovation level. Our business ethics are determined by the principles of the United Nations' Global Compact Initiative (human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption).
