Standard Components Used in this Example

Using two ESMini COMs and protected by a fire-safe, IP67-protected housing, this control unit for mining machines withstands extreme conditions. Thanks to the sophisticated design of the massive housing the two modules can work side by side without any electromagnetic interference and deliver passive cooling capabilities for a temperature range of -10 to +70°C. In addition to this, the system is immune to extremely high vibrations of up to 5G and shock up to 50G as well as environmental influences like dust, humidity and chemicals.

The two Intel Atom based COM modules fulfill different tasks: One module communicates in real time with the operating control of the vehicle. The other one is used as a graphics controller transmitting the data from the vehicle to an external display. Due to this independency the system achieves safety integrity level SIL 2. While the Intel Atom based COM modules could be used without any adaptations, the carrier board inside the housing was designed by MEN to meet the requirements regarding I/O features, connectors and storage.

MM2 - ESMini COM with Intel Atom E600 Series

The MM2 is an ultra-small and rugged Computer-On-Module (COM) of the ESMini family featuring an x86 Intel Atom E680T CPU. It is designed for industrial automation, medical computers, in-vehicle computers, and embedded computers in transportation. The MM2 supports conductive cooling technology and is 100% EMC proof.
