First Steps towards openETCS: Successful Test Implementation in SCADE
Open menTCS as On-Board Unit for openETCS
Directed by Deutsche Bahn, openETCS, endeavors to provide a standardized development environment for modelling, testing and validation to simplify the introduction of future ETCS (European Train Control System) equipment and make its implementation cost-effective and reliable. The openETCS project has now gone through its first round.
Within the project a routing example including all important waypoints like balises, gradients and junctions, a radio block center as communication unit from the control center to the train and an on-board unit have been modelled in SCADE. For the latter MEN provided the implementation on its F75P safe CPU board – the heart of the modular menTCS Train Control System – and could prove operability for this complex routing.
SCADE is just one possibility to program applications on the menTCS SIL 4 COTS system. A C-based framework or a soft SPS solution are also possible.
menTCS, the modular Train Control System from MEN, builds on standardized electronics and a standardized interface to the software application, and is therefore the very first open computer platform for automatic train operation and protection. Both operators and supplier benefit from noticeably lower system costs – not only for certification but also due to independence of suppliers regarding maintenance and life cycle management.
