Train Surveillance Systems

Standard Components Used in this Example

One application is a combination of a digital video recorder and a video display server and is part of a larger communication and surveillance system. A total of four digital video recorder units and two video display servers are used per train set, eachhoused in its individual CompactPCI rack.

The digital video recorder unit captures closed circuit television (CCTV) images to disk and stores event data collected from the set. It is based on a single-board computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor running at 2.2 GHz with a customized side card providing the RAID functionality needed to address the system's eight hard disk drives (1 TByte each).

The video display server is based on the same CPU board and enables real-time display of CCTV images on the set. A customized sidecard provides an optical Ethernet interface via a rugged optical SFP (LC Duplex) connector. A second CPU unit can optionally be added to the video display server rack.

Another application supports real-time data transfers between train and shore based systems for non-critical activities such as announcements, timetables, CCTV, location, alarms, etc. The F19P-based CompactPCI PlusIO system houses different platforms like a headless unit, a maintenance simulator platform, a shore server and a mobile gateway and is conform with EN 50155.

In a third application, a wireless embedded network controller box combines passenger information with security applications. It is based on a 3U CompactPCI card with an Intel Pentium and a side card with rugged Lemo connectors for Gigabit Ethernet. The conformally coated boards work in a fanless environment in a temperature range of -40 to +85°C.

Displays for surveillance of the passenger compartment and doors in trains, subways and streetcars are based on the COTS display computer with a 15" display and on customized panel PCs with 10.4" and 17" displays with touch functionality. The fanless EN 50155 compliant devices support conductive cooling technology and are driven by members of the Intel Atom family.

F14 - Intel Pentium M CPU Board

Equipped with the high-performance Intel 2-GHz Pentium M down to the 1-GHz ultra low voltage Celeron M processor, the F14 is a 4 HP/3U CompactPCI board, designed for embedded systems with high computing/graphics performance and low power consumption.

F18 - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU Board

The F18 is a 3U CompactPCI SBC equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7500.

F19P - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU Board

The F19P versatile 4HP/3U single-board computer is compatible to the CompactPCI PlusIO standard and equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor SP9300.

F606 - Side Card Gb Ethernet

The F606 is a 4HP dual Gigabit Ethernet extension card for 3U Intel based CompactPCI single-board computers. It can be used in combination with the F14 and compatible CPU boards.

F608 - Side Card for RAID Systems

The F608 is a 4HP SATA extension card for 3U Intel based CompactPCI single-board computers. It can be used in combination with the F14 and compatible CPU boards.

DC1 - Rugged 15" Panel PC

The display computer DC1 is a rugged, fanless and maintenance-free panel PC for harsh, mobile and mission-critical applications in transportation, avionics, medical engineering and industrial automation.
